Trading in the SaxoTrader platform

Welcome to trading with Saxo Bank. In this tutorial we are going to show you a few quick tips on how to start trading in the Saxotrader platform.

FINDING INSTRUMENT

  1. Let’s begin by creating a new view; click on File > View > Add View.
  2. To view all the available products select Trading > Instrument Explorer.
  3. Saxo Bank offers more than 30 000 products to trade in Forex, CFDs, Stocks, Stock Options, Futures and Contract Options.
  4. You can change your view to organize the products by exchanges or sectors.
  5. Or you can simply search for the instrument by typing its name
  6. For example type Apple.
  7. You can trade Apple as CFD, Stock and Stock Option.

PLACING ORDER

  1. Before you place your order you can check the price movement of the selected product.
  2. Right click and select New Chart.
  3. For full view right click on the chart and click Panel.
  4. To place an order, right click on the chart and select the Trade Ticket.
  5. Choose the order tab.
  6. Set up the details of your order: Quantity, Buy or Sell, Entry Type and Duration.
  7. To place related orders specify your Limit – Take Profit and Stop Loss price levels. 
  8. The Info panel shows additional information about the order including costs and the net value of the position.
  9. For more details about the Margin check the Margin panel.
  10. When ready, place and then confirm the order.

ACCOUNT SUMMARY

  1. To view the status of your account and all open positions go to Account > Account Summary.
  2. From the account summa​ry you can close your position, put a Limit - Take Profit or Stop Loss  order by clicking on the related buttons.

* The margin applies to the first EUR 50,000 (or account base currency equivalent) of combined CFD margin collateral. On collateral over the EUR 50,000 the required margin will double.

Other specifics:
Order types: Limit, Market, Stop, Stop Limit and Trailing Stop orders are supported. In addition you are able to place conditional If Done and One Cancels Other (OCO) orders. A Stop Order to sell your position is triggered on the bid price and Stop Orders to buy are triggered on the ask price.
Cash Settlement: Commodity CFDs give clients exposure to the underlying commodity without the confusion of physical settlement. All Commodity CFDs transactions will be cash settled. Short Selling: Short selling of Commodity CFDs is fully supported with Saxo Bank.
